The Sound of Perseverance is the seventh and final studio album by the American death metal band Death, released in 1998. The album is less melodic but more technical and complex than its predecessors, with Chuck Schuldiner's vocals changing from growling to screaming. The album features Richard Christy's intricate drumming and was followed by two tours before Schuldiner suspended Death's activities to focus on his new project, Control Denied. Schuldiner was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer in 1999 and passed away in 2001 while working on Control Denied's album, When Man and Machine Collide.
